Why Choose Pregnancy Massage at Heal Active?
Relief Where You Need It Most: Pregnancy often brings tension in the lower back, hips, shoulders, and legs as your body adapts. My prenatal massage techniques can help ease muscle tightness and alleviate discomfort — especially around the pelvis, glutes, and spine — helping you move more freely.
Enhanced Circulation & Reduced Swelling: With the increase in blood volume during pregnancy, fluid retention and swelling (particularly in the legs) are common. Massage promotes lymphatic drainage and better circulation, helping to reduce that swelling and the heaviness you might feel.
Stress Reduction & Emotional Wellbeing: Pregnancy can be an emotional rollercoaster. Massage is a powerful tool to lower stress hormones, uplift mood, and deepen relaxation — helping to calm anxiety and support better sleep.
Better Sleep & Recovery: Sleep becomes harder to come by as your bump grows. With gentle, pregnancy-specific positioning and techniques, I aim to support restorative sleep and ease the tension that makes rest difficult.
Support for a Positive Pregnancy Journey: Beyond immediate comfort, regular pregnancy massage can contribute to healthier outcomes — by reducing stress and increasing physical comfort, you’re helping both your well-being and potentially your baby’s.
Safety Is Key — My Approach
Your safety and your baby’s are my absolute priority. Here’s how I make sure every pregnancy massage session is both effective and prudent:
1. Midwife Confirmation Required
Before any prenatal massage booking, I ask for confirmation from your midwife or healthcare provider that massage is safe in your pregnancy. This ensures we’re aligned and that I can tailor treatment with your unique medical background in mind.
2. No New Clients in First Trimester
In line with best practice guidelines, I currently do not accept new pregnancy massage clients during the first trimester (weeks 1–12). While there’s limited definitive evidence of risk, this policy helps us prioritise safety during early pregnancy.
3. Pregnancy-Specific Techniques
I use gentle, adapted massage methods: side-lying positions (rather than supine), moderated pressure, and avoiding deep tissue in highly sensitive or risky zones. Every session is designed around what’s best for you and your growing bump.
4. Individualised, Responsive Care
Your pregnancy is unique — so your massage should be too. I adjust each session based on how you feel, your gestational stage, and any medical or lifestyle factors. If any contraindications arise (e.g., placental concerns, high-risk pregnancy), I’ll only proceed when clearance is confirmed from your care team.
Who Benefits Most
Pregnancy massage is particularly well suited for those in their second or third trimester who are experiencing common pregnancy-related discomforts — such as back pain, leg swelling, tightness, or stress. It’s not just for athletes: whether you’re actively training, working at a desk, or simply navigating daily life, the benefits of massage can support your physical and emotional well-being.
